Dioctyl Terephthalate, Bis 2-ethylhexyl Terephthalate, DOTP, 6422-86-2

Dioctyl Terephthalate, Bis 2-ethylhexyl Terephthalate, DOTP, 6422-86-2

Dioctyl Terephthalate (DOTP) is a non-phthalate plasticizer used in the polymer industry. It is an ester of terephthalic acid and 2-ethylhexanol. DOTP is known for its excellent plasticizing efficiency, good processing performance, superior thermal aging stability, high dielectric properties, high cold resistance, and low volatility.

Properties:

  • Chemical Formula: C24H38O4

  • Molecular Weight: 390.56 g/mol

  • Appearance: Clear and slightly yellowish liquid

  • Purity: Minimum 99.0%

  • Acid Value: Maximum 0.01%

  • Water Content: Maximum 0.1%

  • Specific Gravity: 0.986±0.002 g/ml (at 20°C)

  • Flash Point: 210°C

  • Freezing Point: -50°C

  • Boiling Point: 400°C (at 760 mmHg)

Applications:

  • Flooring: Used in various types of flooring materials

  • Food Packaging: Stretch films and other packaging materials

  • Toys: Safe for use in toys

  • Medical Applications: Used in medical devices and equipment

  • Cables and Wires: Used in the production of cables and wires

DOTP is preferred over other plasticizers like DOP (Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate) due to its non-carcinogenic nature and lower migration rate, making it safer for use in products that come into direct contact with humans.

Dioctyl Terephthalate (DOTP) is also known by several other names:

  • Bis(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate

  • Di(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate

  • DOTP

  • 6422-86-2 (CAS number)
